Bakesale for Japan: April 2, 2011

What: A simultaneous national bakesale hosted at some of our favorite bakeries, restaurants, and other businesses featuring baked goods made by some of the most talented professional and amateur bakers around.

Where: At locations across the country!

When: Saturday, April 2nd from 10am-2pm

Who: Professional and amateur bakers, cooks, artists, artisans, and musicians coming together around food to make something BIG happen.

How: Want to help? We’ll need bakers, artists, volunteers, and lots and lots of customers. Visit the locations page to find a location near you and participate.

Why: So we can donate BIG BUCKS to Peace Winds Japan and help our brothers and sisters over there in the best way we can.

We will be folding 1,000 paper cranes to send to friends in Japan. Do you have origami paper to donate? Can you teach others how to fold cranes on the day of the sale? If so, send me an email.

Wow! Thanks for sending out this information. I think the bake sale is a wonderful and delicious idea. I live in Oakland and even though I can’t volunteer on that day I will stop by Pizzaiolo and make a purchase to support Japan. I will tell all my friends to stop by as well. You guys ROCK!

How do I donate baked goods and origami paper? Is there a need for wax bags or paper plates? I would need to drop my things off on April 1 in case I don’t make it to the bakesale. Thank you for doing this; I had *just* discussed holding a fundraising bakesale with my husband the night before and, lo and behold, I received the announcement about this!!

Don’t think I can make it on 4/2, but I’d be happy to drop off some hearth loaves on Friday, 4/1, to sell at the Marin Country Mart; just need someone at the receiving end. Let me know if that’s possible.

We are hosting a multi-family bake sale in downtown Menlo Park on Sunday from 10-2. Look for signs along El Camino, Santa Cruz, Valpariso and Oak Grove. We needed Saturday for the baking, so it is Sunday, not Saturday as the rest of the sales on this site.

So happy to be a part of this amazing event! My sis-in-law and I will be baking a TON of goodies tonight and blogging about it on http://bakedtoorder.blogspot.com/. We’re delivering to the Ula Cafe location in Jamaica Plain, MA tomorrow morning. The weather will be great tomorrow (after the snow last night) so I’m hoping for a great turnout to support the rebuilding effort in Japan.

This is fantastic!!! I am so inspired by all of the volunteering happening- I love to see people serve one another. Baby Boot Campers came out to Los Gatos, CA yesterday and donated $180 towards the bake sale fund during our “Exercise for Japan” class, and a number of the moms are delivering baked goods this morning as well. Let’s hope we raise a ton of $$$$ for the rebuilding of Japan!

I would like to say thank you very much for all of your support to my county. I coincidentally found one bake sale last Saturday and purchased some cookies and chocolate. They taste really good and gave me a smile :D

You are now making origami paper cranes. I really appreciate your concern; However, I would like to ask you not to send these cranes to Japan. Unfortunately, they just become litter, and they still do not have space to hold everything in the locations effected by the disaster. It also requires energy to send the cranes there. Japan does not have enough fuel right now and is having a difficult time sending products to the locations of the disaster. Please understand a lot of sufferers still do not have enough food and water. And of course the suffers who receive the cranes would feel guilty to get rid of them.

How about display these cranes at next bake sale instead of sending them to Japan? A lot of Japanese also try to send cranes, and it is often a problem in Japan. I hope you can understand and change your plan. Again, as a Japanese, I really appreciate your consideration in making paper cranes.

Thank you so much. Arigato Tomodachi!!!

Thanks so much for organizing such a successful event! I helped out at the Akasha location in Culver City and we were able to raise close to $3K! Any tiny bit help so kudos to all who participated – the talented bakers and the passerbys who decided to treat themselves! Excited to see what the nationwide proceeds total is! Please keep us posted!

I think what you have done is amazing and wonderful. A great act of proactivity, imapct and fulfillemnt and pray your efforts go and long way to impact the change you need. I love the idea behind it. I am also planning on organizing a bake sale on my own, maybe not on a national scale and I am wondering if there’s anyone I can contact for ideas/support or advice concerning the organization. GOD BLESS YOU GUYS (and everyone else that contributed to it), and I PRAY THAT LIVES WILL INDEED BE TOUCHED BY YOUR MUCH APPRECIATED SUPPORT!
