About

Where is the money from the bakesale going?

Peace Winds Japan established in 1996, is an NGO (Non-Governmental Organization) dedicated to the support of people in distress, threatened by conflict, poverty, or natural disaster. Headquartered in Japan, Peace Winds Japan has been active in various parts of the world during natural disasters, and is currently working tirelessly to bring relief to the Japanese people affected by the recent earthquake and tsunami.

Peace Winds America is an NGO established in 2008 whose mission is to strengthen disaster preparedness and response in the Asia Pacific. Based in Seattle, Peace Winds America’s unique disaster response approach is to partner with local NGOs on-site in affected countries to ensure that resources are utilized efficiently by those with expert knowledge of the community.

Peace Winds America and Peace Winds Japan are right now teaming up to provide emergency relief to victims of the earthquake and tsunami in Northern Japan. Their relief operations are currently underway in the Miyagi and Iwate prefecture, where they are distributing crucial supplies to refugees, such as food and water, medicine, clothing and blankets, temporary shelters, and cooking supplies. They hope to keep expanding their relief efforts to more locations with more resources.

Peace Winds Japan and Peace Winds America focus on sustainable and culturally appropriate recovery solutions for both immediate relief from disasters and longer-term restoration. Both of these organizations’ activities are made possible by funds from membership fees, donations from individuals and business entities, as well as subsidies from government institutions, international organizations, and various foundations. Peace Winds America’s corporate sponsors include Microsoft, Boeing, Puget Sound Energy, Takeda Pharmaceutical, KING-5 TV.

Right now, 100% of donations to Peace Winds America and Peace Winds Japan supports relief efforts for Japan.

Bakesale for Japan will be donating 100% of our proceeds to Peace Winds Japan.  Can’t be with us in person?  Donate now!
